船队来到万安岛，虽然找到了前朝遗民，但未见朱允炆的消息，好在发现了南轩公。郑和见到南轩公非常高兴，也由此弄清那个公子原来就是海上巨盗陈祖义。郑和想进一步了解朱允炆的下落，经过分析觉得这完全是陈祖义在虚张声势。南轩公登上天元号心情十分激动，感慨地说老夫航海几十年了，都没见识过这么大的宝船。郑和打算赦免那些前朝遗民，认为他们永远无害于大明了。郑和的言行感动了南轩公，他答应当船队总舵，并愿意随郑和走尽天涯海角。陈祖义指挥海盗悄悄地上了使臣船，把麻那和护送军官吴勇绑架了。南轩公每到一处，就在海图上画下来。航行过的海洋越多，就越觉得无边无际。郑和以为海虽然很大，但比海更大的，应该是船、是人心。渤泥国王宫，陈祖义拜见国王。该国曾经屡受陈祖义骚扰，渤泥王一直对这位人称“混海龙”的大海盗又恨又怕。这次，陈祖义来禀报渤泥王，“南洋所有邦国，都要大祸临头了。”
