江户幕府第三代将军德川家光时代，一种名为“红脸天花”的怪病在日本蔓延。这种疾病是一种可怕的疾病，“只感染年轻人”，一旦感染就会“几天内死亡”。没有找到对策或治疗方法，结果男性人口骤降到女性人口的四分之一，日本的社会结构发生了翻天覆地的变化。男性作为稀有“种子”被豢养，女性代替以前的男性成为劳动力的承担者，所有家族事业都由女性传给女性。甚至在江户城，在第三代将军家光之后，将军的位置被移交给了女性，大奥包围了稀有的男人作为将军威望的证明，建立了一个被称为 3000 名美男子的男人世界。
