Takao Taniguchi was de aanvoerder en werper van het honkbalteam van zijn middelbare school, maar nadat hij tijdens een wedstrijd een vingerbreuk had opgelopen, gaat Takao de Sumitani High School binnen als fan en niet als speler. Hoewel Takao zich bij het voetbalteam voegt en potentieel toont, heeft hij nog steeds een grote liefde voor honkbal en scheidsrechtert hij nog steeds in het geheim wedstrijden totdat zijn coach hiervan hoort en boos wordt, waardoor Takao gedwongen wordt het team te verlaten. Op aanbeveling van de aanvoerder van het voetbalteam voegt Takao zich bij het Sumitaanse honkbalteam. Helaas staat het team erom bekend grote wedstrijden te verliezen vanwege hun onervarenheid.
