日暮正直（ひぐらしまさなお・通称マサ）は１００人相手のケンカに勝った伝説を持つ元ヤンキーだが、今では海の近くで小さな居酒屋「パイセン」を営んでいる。 顔に大きな切り傷がある強面は一般の人々からヤクザと勘違いされ恐れられるが、実は野生の動植物に詳しい心優しき青年だ。 ある日、不審な男から逃げる少女・佳奈花（かなか）と出会う。 佳奈花には、人の心を読みとれる生まれついての不思議な力があり、それを知った叔父の沢田からギャンブルに連れ回される地獄の日々を送っていたのだ…。 本音と建前を使い分ける醜い大人しか知らなかった佳奈花だが、マサからは南洋の浜辺のような穏やかな安心感しか読み取れず、思わずマサに助けを求めてしまう。 叔父という立場を盾に佳奈花を取り戻そうとする沢田。が、怖がる姿を見たマサは佳奈花を連れて逃げることに…！ “誘拐犯”となったマサと佳奈花の行く末は…!?
